The economic times are changing. You can feel it, see it, sense it and concerned about it. These days feel a little more critical than in past years. Today, we have to compete for energy, jobs, education and economical position on a worldwide basis. Gasoline, home heating oil, diesel, food, and education costs are all rising. The housing and financial meltdown is taking its toll on the American economy. Perhaps you may be one of the many hard working individuals who’s been impacted by this silent recession. Look at these disturbing trends with Corporate America. What happened ? At one time GM had 60% market share in the United States. Today it is sliding towards a mere 20%. General Motors, the once mighty giant, cannot even compete on its own turf! This company saw the competitive changes 30 years ago, however, arrogance and corporate greed blinded the executives to examine this new economic threat. The result: tens of thousands of American jobs lost, most of them manufacturing positions transferred to third world countries. Another example, take a look at Exxon. Here is an American founded company that continues to generate huge profits. In 2001 Exxon’s annual net income was $15B. Year 2007 was over $40B! That is more than $1300 per second in 2007. Yet, we continue to see the pinch at the pump. Corporate America’s sole goal is penetrating more markets, increasing market share and generating as much profit as possible regardless on the impact of America. This behavior for corporate America will not change. This has been the American way. The American legacy. The strongest economy in the world. Do you struggle with the angst and depression wondering what is in the future for your kids? Does this style of economy offer hope ,opportunity and security for you? If not, then there is a new economy. One where you call the shots. One where your success is under your control and not in the control of an executive earning $25,000 a day. You can start you own web business. Certainly, you have the ability to generate an idea, product or service that you can market to the world. There are over 1.3B internet users on a daily basis. You've thought about it, right ? The internet is the mother-of-all markets. This is the new economy. You can create a legacy for you and your family. You can become independent. What do you need to get started ? A huge bankroll ? Expert knowledge in e-commerce? Computer Wizardary? Those advantages certainly help but they are not required. Many people earn $40K-$100K per year on the internet. Yes, it’s not easy but it is possible ! You only need desire and determine! What are the steps ? 1) First, get exposed how a web business works - What is required to setup, execute and launch my web business? - What is a web hosting provider? - What is a merchant account and gateway provider? - What is a shopping cart? - What is Search Engine Optimization? - What will be my monthly total costs? 2) Second, Develop a plan with a realistic time table. - Set aside time for research. Are there similar ideas out there? - Evaluate the competitive landscape. - Find a low cost internet competitive analysis provider who can analyze your product’s potential market worthiness. - Analyze your keywords and quantify how many competitors optimize their site for your keywords. - Do some corporate intelligence work. Extract your competitor’s keywords from their site. - Nail down your business identity (biz name, location, domain, logo) etc - Set up you business “office” (telephone, mailbox, EIN number, insurance, business cards) etc. - Decide which business entity is best suited for you such as a sole proprietorship, LLC, Partnership or Corporation - Launch your Web Site design, development and integration - Initiate Marketing campaigns... yep, you have to attract clients! 3) Third, Understand the necessity to nurture and sustain your business - Is it absolutely essential to have a sustaining process that understands the heartbeat of your prospective clients so your business will grow and mature. - Your potential customer marketing “sweet spot” will fluctuate and change over time. Next, you will need to explore the service provider landscape for the required services you need such as selecting a Host Provider, Merchant Account and Gateway provider. Go ahead, search for “Host Providers” or “Web Hosting” and you will see over 2 Billion results returned, combined for MSN, Yahoo and Google !! Wow !!! Not to mention , Merchant Account Providers. If you anticipate your business will accept credit cards through your web site you definitely need a merchant account provider and a gateway solution. Go ahead, do another search for Merchant Accounts you will see an additional 20 Million or so responses combined for Yahoo, MSN and Google. How can you sort out the good from the bad, who offers the best fit for your business and who provides the best total costs? So, how do you compare these solution providers ? Well, if you have the time and energy you should : 1) Check the provider’s business standing. - Review what the Better Business Bureau states about the profile of the company. - Also, check to see if the company discloses a business telephone number and a business address on their web page. - You may be shocked how many providers do not !! Why ? 2) Get a sense just how popular the provider is . - Visit Alexa.Com and Quantcast.Com. You can get a darn good perspective who drives the most traffic. The premise : The more traffic the more popular the site ! 3) Compare the costs. Yep, you bet ! - However, you need to do a deep examination on this one. Don’t take at face value the website catch-ads! - Make sure you understand the setup fees, annual fees, monthly fees, contract and cancellation fees. These providers can be very creative with fees and bury them in the fine print , especially in the Merchant account realm ! - Be especially wary of “lowest rates” and “will beat all other rates” declarations ! 4) Compare value. Compare what you get for the price you are willing to pay. - For instance, when selecting a host provider you should check just how much you are paying based upon your disk allocation and bandwidth allocation. You may be shocked at the relative costs. This can be a real eye-opener !!
