Horse Activities In The Emerald Isle: The Top 5 Must See Sites

1)The Galway Races - July 28th to August 3rd
This premiere racing festival has been held since 1869 and has plenty of races throughout the week with the biggest prize about 200,000 euro’s and is available to see throughout the world. It comes with the reputation of having an incredible spirited atmosphere just like the jockey’s and the horses and the event attracts about 200,000 equine enthusiasts every year. It is set during the last week of July at the Ballybrit Racecourse and is a real treat for all equine enthusiasts.

2)The Dublin Horse Show 2008 06-10th August
This is a huge exhibition held in the capital Dublin over the RDS complex. It has everything to do with horses available but if you enjoy shopping there are many other things to spend on in the trade hall with around 300 individual stalls. The main attraction of the week is of course the racing and is the awarding of the Aga Khan Challenge Trophy this involves eight countries have competed for the title.

3)County Monaghan: Castle Lesley
Castle Leslie is one of the last 30 Irish castles still run by the family who have owned it since the 1660’s, they have received a number of famous people over the last 400 years and boasts beautifully luxurious accommodation. The Castle Leslie Equestrian Centre is placed within beautiful countryside and is in the ideal situation to enjoy horse riding and recently opened a premiere equestrian facility that can cater for all levels of experience. Facilities include 1,000 acres of private land with over 300 purpose built jumps, over 20 miles of bridleways to simply enjoy the surroundings and weatherproof provisions for those rainy days.

4)Goffs - Horse Sale Show
Goffs Bloodstock Sale is found in Kill, County Kildare is the premium equestrian supplier in Ireland and every year there are specialist events held to sell quality horses to anyone who has the money to bid. People can participate in the auction via a web site also but to visit the auction means all the exhilaration of an auction as well as seeing some of the beautiful horses and meeting other horse specialist. Goffs Million Sale is held this year on 29th September to 1st October, features 657 premier yearlings and includes eligibility to the Goffs Millions with the huge prize fund of 3,200,000 Euro’s.

5)The 27 Racecourses Nationwide
It is a fact that there are more racecourse’s per head in the emerald isle than anywhere else in the world so where ever your based in Ireland your will never be far from a day at the races. The total amount of race enthusiasts country wide is over 1.4 million to the 27 individual racecourses. The racecourses range from national hunt to flat or a combination of the two.
