How Do You Know that God is Calling You into Ministry?

Well, this is a subject that many of us have or do struggle with. The thing about this, that anyone can tell you that has been in ministry for some years, is that you may ask this question more than once. I have been in ministry now since 1990 and have gone through many ups and downs. It is just a part of the call.

Every since I was 13 years old I have known that I was destined to preach the Word of God. Neither my father nor my grandfather was preachers at the time. As a matter of fact, my father is now a pastor, but began his ministry a year after I did. My call was something that I was sure of and I answered at the age of 21 whole heartedly.

Confirmation is something that we all look for. I will never forget when I was sure that God was calling me and I called my pastor. His response to me was, "I was waiting for you to call". He put me up to preach during bible study the very next week. Through everything that I have ever experienced, being called by God is the one thing that I been most sure of my whole life.

You may be considering if you are being called in that direction. How do you know if that call is from God? You know because you know. You know because you feel like you cannot do it. You know because you don't feel you can live if you don't, but at the same time, you will look for every excuse to run and ignore it.

My father told me that when he was trying to decide, it was my mother that finally made him answer yes. She told him, "if you do not do what God is telling you to do, you cannot do anything for me". These words from this anointed woman set him on the right path and put him in the right frame of mind.

Being called into ministry is an honor and it is at the same time terrifying. There is nothing else in life that you will ever do that will humble you as much. This calling however can also change you for the worse. I say change you for the worse only if you start thinking that this about you and not God. Your calling will never stop. Your calling will never fade. You calling will be that thing that keeps you centered and if you are not on the right path, your life will never be right.

How do you know that God is calling you into ministry? Only you know. Do not let anyone push you into ministry. Do not let anyone lead you into ministry. A good rule of thumb is always this. God will tell you and let you know. It is only up to God to tell you your calling. Listen only to Him. He is the one calling you.
