The most wonderful country in the Eastern Europe

By: Mathew Petrenko

Ukraine is a unitary state located in the south of Central Europe. It comprises twenty four provinces, Crimea – an autonomous republic and two urban districts that are treated separately: Kiev that is the capital and Sevastopol. Ukraine became a semi-presidential republic only four years ago. That is the consequence of an orange revolution of 2004. Nowadays the system of government in that country has a quite interesting structure: the authority is redistributed between several branches of power. Ukraine has a common border with ten countries. These countries are Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Moldova and Slovakia. There are Crimea and Carpathian mountains in Ukraine, Carpathian are significantly higher then Crimea mountains. Across Ukraine flows Dnieper, that is considered to be one of the longest rivers in Europe. This river brings the great deal of hydroelectric energy for Ukraine. Ukraine has a quite soft climate, so the winters are not very cold here but some rivers and lakes are commonly covered by ice. The summers are wet with temperatures frequently going about 35 Centigrade. Nevertheless, the weather is dry and sunny most of the time.

Agriculture is the sphere which is quite developed in this region. It is caused by such favorable climate terms. Ukraine is considered to be one of the most significant exporters of sugar. In general, the country produces lots of produce: maize, corn, vegetables, fruit, etc. Kiev is a quite old city and it is the capital of Ukraine. Even nowadays we can find some buildings dated 5th century there. This city is simply wonderful. That was the small town that developed into the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern Europe. After it was occupied by Mongols in the 13th century and fully destroyed, it lost its eminence for a long time. Great impact on the growth was produced by the creation of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Soviet Republic assisted Kiev to recover completely. Nowadays the population of Kiev is about 3 million citizens. According to the censuses the population is rapidly growing year by year. We may not even nearly count the number of different ethnic groups which are included into that amazing city. More than 120 ethnic groups live here. In the second part of 20th century its population grew significantly as a result of improvement of real estate building in this city. Among blue and grey blocks of flats created modern downtown buildings. During several last years Kiev has received the status of full-fledged European city with a number of chic restraints and luxury hotels.

Statistics shows that the average salary in Kiev increased significantly for last five years. That means the economics of Ukraine becomes more and more constant and powerful. Ukraine is also going to become a member of WTO after it ratifies the agreement.
