"It seems like such a simple thing, but the impact it can have on the finished product of your marketing makes it worth understanding. The ink is the visual of your marketing, and anyone who has worked at any great length with marketing knows that the visual is one of the key components of successful marketing. People want to get something they can enjoy looking at, something vibrant and beautiful. To achieve that you need to have the right colors, which means the right inks. For any large order of advertisements offset printing is likely going to be the way to go, which means the ink becomes a very important factor. After all, you don’t want to order a large number of copies only to get it back and see it doesn’t look at all like you were expecting. The most common colors comes from a four coloring method. From these four colors you can create almost any other color. The majority of advertisements out there you see are going to be the products of these four colors. If you look at the colors for your computer screen you’ll find these same four. Most people would call them yellow, blue, pink, and black, though the more technical name will be yellow, cyan, magenta, and black. Now, while the four colors are the primary ones used, you are able to add what’s called a spot color. This is a fifth color added to the other four, and can help add additional depth and shades to the existing image. Often the truly interesting advertisements you see with creative coloring were probably made using a spot color. These kinds of colors can run a wide gamut. The company handling your offset printing should be able to provide you with a swatch book or chart showing just what colors there are to best serve your needs. However, you also need to be aware of the impact different styles of paper can have on the colors. The look of a color is going to be different depending on whether you’re using coated or uncoated paper. If the paper has a certain coloring to it already you’ll likely get much different results than you would if you were using plain white. No one wants to pay for printing only to get something that doesn’t look anything like they were expecting because they didn’t know what impact the style of paper you used can have on the finished advertisement. Next time you need to get printing done be sure to ask your printer about all the different possibilities and details that go into creating your advertisement. You might stumble across a type of coloring that will add just the touch your advertisement needed whether you realized it or not. Make your advertisements so visually appealing they’re something to behold. "
