Travel and Tourism in Spain

By: sachin reddy

Tourism is vital for many countries, due to the large intake of money for businesses with their goods and services and the opportunity for employment in the service industries associated with tourism. These service industries include transportation services such as cruise ships and taxis, accommodation such as hotels and entertainment venues, and other hospitality industry services such as resorts.
Tourism in Spain:
Tourism in Spain includes the three largest cities of Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. Some other very interesting places include Cordoba, Seville, Granada (cultural places) and Málaga, Cádiz, Almería (beaches) in Andalusia, Salamanca, Toledo, Spain, Segovia . Cáceres, Guadalupe and Merida are cultural places in Extremadura. Important tourist places (with incredible beaches) are Rías Baixas, Salou Valencian Region, Valencia, Castellon, Benidorm and Alicante), Menorca (Biosphere Reserve and the most calm of Balearic, without mass tourism), Mallorca, Ibiz, Canary Islands, Catalonia and Green Spain (north of Spain). The Basque Country autonomous community is becoming a very important touristic point, with the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, San Sebastián
Spain's tourism spending annually is over $46 Billion, the highest tourism spending in any nation worldwide except the USA with $74 Billion.
Spain's national airline is Iberia (or Iberia Airlines), but the country can also be flown into on many international passenger airlines such as Spanair, Aireuropa, Vueling, AirBerlin, Clickair and charter airlines, both of which fly to many tourist spots in the region. There are good trains, for example AVE (Spanish high velocity) or Talgo. There are good freeways to the most important cities.
With great beaches, fun nightlife, many cultural regions and historic cities, Spain makes a great destination for any kind of trip. A country of large geographical and cultural diversity, Spain is sometimes a surprise to people who know its reputation for great beach holidays. There is everything from lush meadows, snowy mountains, huge marsh and saline’s and deserts in the south east.
Immigration:
Spain holds a historical attachment to its neighbors within the Iberian Peninsula i.e. Andorra, France and Portugal, to its former colonies, to its former citizens and their descendants, and to a special category of former citizens i.e. Sephardic Jews. Individuals from these categories may acquire Spanish citizenship in an accelerated fashion which may or may not require that the individuals reside in Spain, and residency requirements are as short as 1 to 3 years depending on the category. Citizens of countries in the European Union may acquire citizenship after residing in Spain for five years. Citizens of any other country may acquire citizenship after residing in Spain for ten years.
Different types of accommodation in cities in Spain:
There are three different names given to hotel-like accommodation in large cities in Spain, they are Hotel, Hostel and Pension. It is important not to confuse a hostel with a hostel; a hostel offers backpacker-type accommodation with shared rooms, whereas a hostel is very similar to a guest house and is generally cheaper than a hotel.
